An opportunity to secure your name or that of your family, organisation or company to the community clock tower for posterity.

The prospect of fitting a clock tower to the apex of the roof on the Victoria Hall, was first proposed in 1996 when the management committee were planning a total restoration and expansion programme. At that time it was not seen as a priority and we regarded it as one of the last projects to undertake.

The original Victoria Hall building dated about 1897 was fitted with a pagoda roof style turret and vent which was typical of the period. Eventually the structure rotted and was taken down leaving a capped lead base platform.

Having now undertaken almost all of the restoration over a twelve year period, including the construction of the new foyer, kitchen and more recently the new stage fit-out of lighting and sound systems, the prospect of replacing the old roof vent with a clock tower has become the focus of attention.

The clock tower has been subject to various design suggestions and the proposed ‘period style turret clock’ from Smiths of Derby has been selected. Smiths are one of the oldest public clock manufacturers with many thousands of installations and use modern technology to ensure longevity and are virtually maintenance free.

The clock design includes four convex dials- North, South, East and West finished in Lavender Pillow colour ( a blue/purple) to match the general Victoria Hall colour theme based on Arts and Craft colour palette. The numerals, minute marks and hands will be picked out in gold.

The project cost including adjustable volume chimes-(that can be set to stop and start at a given time) is estimated to be £15,000 including the lightning conductor and fitting in place.

The Funding appeal has already raised close to £1,000 and we invite the community to subscribe for various elements of the clock. All subscribers names will be noted and recorded in the foyer of the Victoria Hall for posterity, and we welcome subscriptions from individuals, families, organisations or companies directly associated with the village. Each subscriber will receive a record of the gift and a colour picture of the clock and the item subscribed for.
