Victoria Halls New Development Plans 2010

The Halls extensive use coupled with the ever expanding population caused by housing developments has increased pressure to provide additional multi-use facilities, which we are now addressing.

Over the past three years we have been considering a number of building ideas, and involved our architects, Parish Council and District planners to determine the best and most cost effective use of the site directly behind the Edward Hall.

The conclusion we have reached is to construct a single story modular timber building that will be self contained with entrance hall, toilets, kitchen, main hall, a small meeting room, adequate storage and a contained outdoor terrace/play area.

Over 1000 of these award winning high specifications buildings are in use throughout the country used by many organisations including village/community halls, school and University buildings, health centres, nurseries, and dance/performing art studios. The long standing family owned and run business Homelodge is located in Winchester.

We anticipate installing the new building and being fully operational by summer 2010.

Funding

Our continuous fund raising activities over the past 14 years have accumulated a substantial proportion of the new building costs, but we need to raise an additional £120,000, and appeal to the community to support our fund raising efforts either by a direct donation, or by supporting our fund raising activities and events.

Sponsored Pilgrims Walk

To start off the extra fund-raising activity, four of The Victoria Hall Charity Trustees and Management Committee members plus two other supporters are to undertake a sponsored walk of the last 110 kms of the famous Camino de Santiago Pilgrim Route in Galicia, Spain at the end of April 2010. In 1997 Janet Davies, Committee Secretary, walked the whole of the 750km Route and raised £750 for the Victoria Hall. Now, she and the other participants (whose combined average age is 70) are undertaking this challenge in the hope and belief that it will encourage both interest and generous financial support from the whole community. We hope that it might also encourage all users and younger groups to undertake their own fund-raising activities- please.
